Last days of summer

A relatively cool---for Tokyo---summer is coming to an end. That means flu season will be here early this year.

Tama River, Tokyo side. Shinmaruko in Kanagawa prefecture is in the background.

No luck

There are always a number of fishermen along the Tamagawa. Some even fish during rare snowstorms in Tokyo. Some folks claim the fish are safe to eat as the river is claimed to be relatively clean, but others who live in the area cringe at the thought as the image of the river is anything but clean.

Not yet

Supposedly, cherry blossoms have started blooming in Tokyo. Seems too cold for that---haven't seen any yet. These are from last year

Minato Mirai, Yokohama

One of the nicest places in the Tokyo area, in my opinion---and that of many others. There is a huge shopping mall there near Sakuragicho station, the tallest building in Kanto, (if not in Japan) of over 60 stories. You can take a cruise on Yokohama Bay, or take a small boat and visit Chinatown. You can easily spend a whole day here. It can be very cold and windy in the winter, but cooler than most places in the summer.

Nearby is the Yokohama immigration port. An unusually shaped structure, to say the least.

Hakone

Hakone is a resort area not far from Tokyo in Kanagawa. The Fuji Hotel, where John Lennon and Yoko Onna stayed for a while is stll there. It is a beatiful building, and I would recommend a stay there if you ever get the chance. Included here: A museum of Edo era buildings under construction; an ice cream shop; Hakone Lake
